Liverpool's Giovanni Leoni ruled out for several months with torn ACL: Report

Giovanni Leoni hopes to return before the end of this season.
Liverpool have suffered a huge injury blow as their new signing, Giovanni Leoni, has torn his ACL. His season might actually be over.
The centre-back started in the Reds’ 2-1 win over Southampton in the EFL Cup but was forced off on the stretcher in the 81st minute. Meanwhile, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike guided Liverpool to a narrow win.
Despite the win, the Reds have been hit with a big injury concern, and their young centre-back faces many months on the sidelines. After falling awkwardly on the ground, Leoni was treated on the pitch side before being taken off on a stretcher.
The centre-back faces long spells on the sidelines with a torn ACL
The 18-year-old joined the club from Parma in the summer window and looks like the club’s prominent future centre-back. He also impressed in his first start for them, but it ended in horror.
However, now he has been ruled out for a long spell and will hope to recover in time to return to the action before the end of the season.
Arne Slot will be sweating on Leoni’s ailment as he has been hit by many defensive injuries this season. Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez have had their fair share of injuries, while Jeremie Frimpong also missed a few matches due to a hamstring issue.
Meanwhile, the Reds’ wins have all come in the dying moments of the matches this season, and they are yet to win a game with a convincing margin.
On top of that, mounting injuries are another concern for Slot, whose side hasn’t been solid at the back. They have only kept one clean sheet in all competitions this season.
Liverpool will next return in action on Saturday when they travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
