Liverpool given chance to sign Juventus star Federico Chiesa: Report
Thiago Motta has not included Chiesa in his plans for the upcoming season.
Liverpool have been handed a chance to sign Federico Chiesa after Juventus head coach Thiago Motta revealed that the Italian is not in the plans for the upcoming season.
Chiesa has been the Italian side’s stalwart ever since he joined them from Fiorentina. The forward scored 10 goals in all competitions in the previous campaign. But the sacking of Massimiliano Allegri made the 26-year-old’s future at the club uncertain.
After becoming Juventus head coach, Motta has started making new changes and would favour those players who will be settled under the former PSG player’s system. Motta also dropped Chiesa in the Juventus game against Brest on Saturday.
He has also made it public that the Italian is free to leave the club as he is set to hand opportunities to other players. It’s unlikely that the former Fiorentina player will be part of the squad for the upcoming season.
“Chiesa is out for transfer market reasons, both him and the others who stayed at home, except Miretti, who is injured. We were clear with them. They are good, but they have to look for solutions where they can play more,” Thiago Motta told Sky Sport Italia.
“Both for Chiesa and the others, these are decisions made. We have to improve day by day and give joy to the fans who come to support this team, and they deserve it. It is important to prepare well and improve in the game we want to see. I have seen an improvement from the first game; it is normal within a growth path.”
Liverpool now have an excellent shot at bringing the player to Merseyside after they missed out on his transfer back in 2021. Back then the Reds were eager to land the Italian as he had led Italy to the Euro 2020 trophy.
Back then, Liverpool had made a £85 million offer for the forward. But Juventus instantly turned down that proposal. They claimed that Chiesa was an unsellable player and wanted to build the team around him. But things have changed now.
Liverpool are yet to make a signing this summer. If they do move for Chiesa, he will be available for a cut price as Juventus are looking to get rid of the forward. The Reds might consider not missing the chance to sign him now.
