Top five Liverpool players with most direct free-kick goals in single Premier League season ft. Szoboszlai & Coutinho

Liverpool’s Szoboszlai has set a new record after his free-kick against Spurs.
A fantastic free kick curled over a wall of defence and into the top corner is one of the most thrilling sights in football. The Premier League has been blessed with several legendary players who have mastered this technique.
Instead of aiming outside the box, players are being urged more and more to consult their playbook of set pieces. However, this does not imply that set-piece experts are completely absent from the game.
There are still a ton of gifted players out there who can score off a dead ball. Here are the Liverpool players with the most direct free-kick goals in a Premier League season.
The top five Liverpool players with the most direct free-kick goals in a Premier League season
5. Philippe Coutinho: 3 (2016/17)
During his time at Liverpool, Philippe Coutinho converted five free kicks in the Premier League, earning him a reputation as a master of the sport.
Philippe Coutinho was one of the top long-range goal scorers in the Premier League. The 2016/17 season saw him score the most free-kicks for the Reds and set a new record. The fact that he did so on just a few attempts demonstrates how effective that part of his game was while wearing the Reds jersey.
4. Luis Suárez: 3 (2013/14)

During his final two years at Anfield, Luis Suarez scored multiple free kicks. In the 2013–14 season, he scored his fourth goal in a single game against Norwich City by bending an unstoppable effort into the net. It was also his third free-kick in that season.
Surprisingly, Suarez only managed one free kick in six years at FC Barcelona, most likely as a result of Lionel Messi being the main specialist for the set-pieces at the club.
3. Gary McAllister: 3 (2000/01)
Over the course of his more than 19-year career, Gary McAllister mostly played midfield. Before relocating south of the border to Leicester City at the age of 20, he began his career at the local team Motherwell. After that, he played for Leeds United, where in 1991–92 he won the English league title.
Later, McAllister played for Premier League teams Coventry City, where he was frequently credited with helping the team avoid relegation, and Liverpool, when, at the age of 36, he won the cup treble in 2000–01. In the 2000/01 Premier League season, he scored three set-piece goals for the Reds and was one of the team’s top free-kick takers.
2. Patrik Berger: 3 (1999/00)
Patrik Berger, who could play forward and midfield, gained recognition for his strong left foot, powerful strikes, and sprinting runs. Throughout his career, Berger was plagued by injuries and underwent specialised treatments in the US. Due to knee issues, he retired on January 6, 2010.
He did, however, spend a few years with Liverpool, where he won a few trophies. His 1999–00 season was notable for being among the league’s highest free kicks.
1. Dominik Szoboszlai: 4 (2025/26)

In the 1-1 draw at Anfield against Tottenham Hotspur, the Liverpool midfielder stepped up to deliver the first goal by bending an effort past Guglielmo Vicario.
Szoboszlai’s goal was his fifth of the 2025–26 campaign in every tournament and his fourth in the Premier League this year. Szoboszlai is accountable for 25% of the 16 free-kick goals that have been recorded in the Premier League thus far this season.
