The Dutch defender has a year left on his contract.

Virgil van Dijk could leave Liverpool this summer after a few Saudi Pro League clubs have expressed interest in signing the player, who is open to joining them in the summer. However, Liverpool are aware of the interest and will sell the defender for €55m.

It is also understood that Van Dijk’s entourage is set to meet PIF to hold talks over a potential move to the Saudi league. However, the talks have already taken place and the former Southampton centre-back is inclining towards joining the Middle Eastern side.

Liverpool were approached earlier by PIF and made their stance clear on signing Van Dijk, and now the Premier League club will be open to offloading the defender if their €55 million (£46.3m) price of the defender is met.

However, the PIF feel the price tag is a little high and will soon make a decision in 2-3 three days regarding their interest in the Dutch centre-back. But they might also drop out of the race if Liverpool don’t reduce his price.

Saudi sides are also planning to wait for Van Dijk’s contract to expire after the defender’s talks with Liverpool over contract extension have been stalled which will give the PIF an advantage to sign the star on a pre-contract in January and sign him as a free agent next summer.

Since Jordan Henderson left the team last season, Van Dijk has been a mainstay for Liverpool and was also chosen as the club captain. His departure will leave a significant void in the team’s defence.

But given they want to sell the player Liverpool will hope to make a good profit from his exit. However, they now have two options, either sell him this summer or lose him for free next transfer window considering the defender hasn’t shown any sign of extending his contract with the club.

Meanwhile, the Reds are yet to make any signings so far in the summer and with a few weeks left for the new season to start which will see the beginning of a new campaign under coach Erne Slot.
