Top four long-range goals ever scored in LaLiga history ft. Güler & Martínez

Only a handful of LaLiga players have scored long-range goals above 55 metres.

In football, long-range goals are uncommon. So every time someone scores one, it’s very remarkable.

Some players have the extraordinary ability to consistently score from great distances. It is certainly a very difficult skill at the top level.

Nothing thrills a crowd more. They turn into an unstoppable force that frequently makes managers’ careful strategies useless. In light of this, we’ve chosen to examine some of the long-range goals ever scored in LaLiga history.

The top four long-range goals ever scored in LaLiga history

4. Mikel Lasa – 58m

Former Spanish professional football player Mikel Lasa was a left-back. He represented Real Sociedad, Real Madrid, and Athletic Bilbao in 267 LaLiga games over 13 seasons, scoring six goals.

Mikel Lasa’s 58-meter goal against Sevilla during the 1994–1995 league season remains one of the longest goals ever scored at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, despite being from the previous century. In 1995, Mikel Lasa scored a long-distance goal from 58 meters.

3. Iñigo Martínez – 58m

In Europe’s top leagues, Martínez was renowned for being one of the few defenders to score many goals. Iñigo Martínez, an ex-defender for Real Sociedad, scored an amazing goal from the halfway line to help Real Sociedad defeat Real Betis 3-2 in injury time.

Martínez’s strong left-footed lob from just within his own half caught goalkeeper Casto Espinosa off his line when the game was deadlocked at 2-2 in extra time.

2. Antonio José – 68m

During the game against Sevilla in 2004, Antonio José decided to take a risk. Instead of going all the way to the opposition box and scoring a goal, he launched it towards the opponent’s goal from his own half. As the ball descended, Sevilla’s goalkeeper struggled to keep up with the pace of the ball and couldn’t prevent it from going inside.

His goal was then described as one of the longest-range goals in the league, measured at approximately 68 meters (roughly 74 yards). It was recently matched by a Real Madrid star, Arda Guler.

During Real Madrid’s convincing victory over Elche at the Santiago Bernabeu, Arda Guler scored one of the most magnificent goals in the league’s history. In a brilliant moment, the 21-year-old Turkish sensation extended Madrid’s advantage to 4-1 by lobbing the Elche goalie from 68 meters inside his own half.

The milestone for the longest goal in league history was previously achieved by Antonio José for Numancia against Sevilla in 2004 from a nearly equal distance. It was verified by statistical calculations at precisely 68 meters.

It is the first goal from within his own half by a Real Madrid player since Lasa’s 58-meter effort against Sevilla in 1995. It’s the longest goal scored in the league since that 2004 goal.

Is Arda Guler’s goal the highest distance goal in the league?

His goal was 68.7 meters long, while José was 68m.

Against which opponent did Guler score the record-long-range goal in LaLiga?

Elche.
