The Spanish manager reportedly turned down his contract extension.
Luis Enrique has taken steps to put an end to rumours over his future at Paris Saint-Germain, stating that he is unaffected by the increasing outside noise regarding his contract status.
According to strong rumours, he rejected an extension in search of a fresh challenge; he may leave PSG before his contract expires in 2027.
Luis Campos, the sporting director of PSG, has already referred to those reports as “fake news.” Enrique has emphasised the same point.
Luis Enrique quashes PSG exit rumours
Luis Enrique also emphasised that there is no drama behind the scenes as talks on his long-term job in Paris move forward.
“These are rumours always going around PSG,” the Spaniard said in a pre-match press conference
“We’re used to it, it’s private, and it will remain that way. There is a lot of fake news. They are trying to destabilise the players and the team, but none of that is going to happen.”
“It’s normal to have negotiations, but it remains private,” he added. “We know what we want, and that’s the most important thing. In that sense, we’re calm and relaxed.”
Last season, PSG ended their quest for their first Champions League trophy by combining domestic supremacy with newfound success in Europe under Luis Enrique.
In the current campaign, the Parisiens have also won the Trophee des Champions and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
With his recent comments on his future at PSG, it will be a big relief for the fans that the manager who has transformed their fortunes since his arrival could continue for many years.
However, for the time being, it remains to be seen. Meanwhile, the Spanish manager will be focused on leading his side to more silverware this term.
