Figo has played with Ronaldo at Portugal.

The ‘best of all time’ debate between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi has been discussed by Real Madrid icon Luis Figo.

Fans of Ronaldo and Messi frequently clash as they debate who is the greatest football player of all time (GOAT), making their rivalry one of the most intense in all of sports.

Cristiano Ronaldo supporters will contend that the Portuguese striker has more goals than his opponent, but many others think that the Argentine forward’s victory in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar ultimately put an end to the argument.

The sport’s legend, Luis Figo, has now weighed in on the controversy while talking about Ronaldo’s skills, with whom he briefly played for the Portuguese national team. But the former Barcelona player feels that fans and pundits alike should never pick one between these two.

“They are both the best in the world. It is always difficult to choose one of them and say he is the best. In the end Ronaldo and Messi are the ones who have been winning all the individual awards in the world of football and that says it all about their tremendous individual talent as footballers. I would never choose between them.”

Figo’s comments make sense as both are best in their own way and have proved over the years going head-to-head with each other.

In the last years of his time as an international player, Figo and Ronaldo played together for Portugal, appearing 23 times together all while contributing to four goals (together) for their national team.

More Ballon d’Or honours have been won by Messi and Ronaldo than by any other player. Messi has an amazing eight, including the 2023 prize, while Ronaldo has five.

But fans have the habit of picking either one of them, though Lionel Messi leads the line after he won the World Cup and many believe he is now the greatest player of all time ahead of Ronaldo.
