The left-back has missed most of Euro 2024 games due to injury

Luke Shaw is expected to start from the get-go for England, making his first start in more than a year when Gareth Southgateā€˜s team plays Spain in the European Championship final, according to The Telegraph.

At Berlin’s Olympiastadion, the Manchester United left-back will take Trippier’s position in the starting lineup as the Three Lions look to put the horrors of their thrilling loss to Italy three years ago behind them.

Trippier, who plays on the opposing side for Newcastle in his club career, has started at left-back in all six of England’s tournament games thus far. Despite Shawā€˜s lack of recent match involvement, Southgate is reportedly optimistic that the natural left-footer will provide his team with in-game versatility’ against Spain.

The Manchester United player has not played a match for his club or nation in 148 days, although he was sidelined with a hamstring injury in February. He did, however, come off as a substitute in the knockout stage victories over Switzerland and the Netherlands.

At Wembley in 2021, Shaw gave England the lead early on. However, Italy battled back and won the match on penalties. The 29-year-old told reporters that he was determined to do even better this time.

ā€œIt would mean everything. I think the bond we have here is extremely special. It’s not one I’ve been a part of before. I think everyone is so together, everyone is really close and it feels like a big family and for all of us to win it together would be, of course, a very special feeling.ā€

In addition, Shaw was questioned about whether he felt well enough to play the entire match against Spain and possibly extra time.

ā€œIt’s a case of taking it as it comes,ā€ he replied. ā€œI said before the semis that I was ready to go – and we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.ā€

England starting XI: Pickford, Guehi, Stones, Walker, Shaw, Saka, Kobbie, Rice, Bellingham, Foden; Kane.
