Martinez is a World Cup winner with Argentina!
Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez has named the toughest striker he has faced in his playing career and labelled him as a ‘monster’ on the pitch.
The Argentine has faced many top strikers, but the toughest striker he has ever faced is Erling Haaland, and both have shared the same pitch many times, playing for the rival Manchester clubs.
Haaland’s stature and his ability to find the back of the net when inside the opposition box make him one of the best strikers in modern football.
Ever since joining Manchester City, the Norwegian has continued to break records and score goals at an unprecedented level and remains the league’s top goal scorer this term.
However, there have been only a handful of centre-backs who have managed to neutralise the striker’s threat in the final third. Lisandro Martinez is one of those names, as he has managed to get the better of Erling Haaland in the majority of their face-offs.
Martinez reveals why Erling Haaland is his toughest opponent

Speaking in an interview, the Man Utd centre-back said:
“Haaland. He’s a monster — strong, fast, and deadly if you give him even half a metre. You can’t switch off for a second. Plus, he’s respectful on the pitch, so I’d choose him.”
Erling Haaland continues to dominate the scoring charts in the league, and despite a recent slump in performance, the striker will be aiming to get back to his form, as he has been the major contributor when it comes to scoring goals for City.
Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez has returned from a long-term injury and is building his form as he looks to lead the club to Champions League qualification this season. While he will also have an eye out for the World Cup in the summer as his national team Argentina look to defend their title.
