Sir Alex Ferguson was crucial in the development of Ronaldo at United.

Former Manchester United star reveals Cristiano Ronaldo never liked being shouted at by Sir Alex Ferguson during his time at Manchester United. Nemanja Vidić, a former United captain, discussed Ferguson’s well-known combative approach on The Overlap, which is presented by Sky Bet.

Additionally, he disclosed that Ronaldo’s response to being the target of one of his tirades caused the guy known as “the hairdryer,” who was known for his violent outbursts, to temper his style.

Vidic said: “What he realised – it’s not that he didn’t shout at me because he was scared of anyone, but he realised that with certain players, it would not help if he’s shouting. I think he changed that after he shouted at Cristiano Ronaldo. I don’t think Ronaldo took it well – maybe good for the English and British players, but he was careful with the foreign players.”

Ferguson appointed Vidic captain in 2011 following Gary Neville’s retirement. The Serbian clarified that he did not share a particularly tight bond with the renowned manager. He stated:

“With the manager I never had a close relationship. If he asked me something I would tell him, but I never had that [relationship]. Rio [Ferdinand] or Fletch [Darren Fletcher] would talk more.”

Vidic clarified that he did not wish to pursue coaching due to family considerations. Moreover, he is not envious of the current lifestyle that managers lead. He stated:

“My kids are now 18, 16, and nearly 14 so, maybe in two or three-years-time I will become more involved in football, but at the moment I am happy with what I am doing. If I look at football now, it is very stressful. It’s not easy to be a coach.”
