Top five managers with most FA Cup trophies

The FA Cup is the oldest national football competition in the world.
The Football Association Cup famously known as the FA Cup is one of the most prestigious trophies in English football. It was started way back in the 1871-1872 season and has amassed numerous winners over the years. Arsenal are the club with the most titles (14) over the years followed by Manchester United with 13 cups.
Putting clubs aside, let’s take a look at the top five managers who have won most FA Cups.
5. Bill Nicholson – 3
It is true that Tottenham Hotspurs have not won any major trophy since 2008 but the situation was different back in the 1960s. Former Tottenham Hotspurs player, Bill Nicholson led Spurs to a lot of glory back in the day. Nicholson won Tottenham Hotspurs their first FA Cup in the 1960-1961 season which was also their double winning season (including the Football League Championship).
The following year Tottenham Hotspurs won the 1961-1962 FA Cup as well. Bill Nicholson then proceeded to win his third and final one with Tottenham in the 1966-1967 season. Tottenham Hotspurs beat Chelsea in the first-ever all London clubs final in that one.
4. John Nicholson – 4
Sheffield United had quite some history under John Nicholson back in the day from 1890s to 1925. They had won numerous trophies back then. Nicholson managed Sheffield United for almost 30 years and led them in one of their most successful periods.
An interesting fact is that Nicholson was not their ‘manager’ during his 30 year tenure but was employed as a club secretary. This was due to the reason that Sheffield United did not employ a manager during that period.
John Nicholson led Sheffield United to six finals and won four of them (1899, 1902, 1915, 1925). Nicholson’s biggest win in the Cup was in the 1898-1899 final when Sheffield United beat Derby County 4-1. Another big win was in the 1914-1915 FA Cup final when Sheffield United beat Chelsea 3-0.
3. Sir Alex Ferguson – 5
One of the best and most successful managers in the history of football. Sir Alex Ferguson era at Manchester was unmatched and feigned dominance for many years winning numerous titles. Ferguson won five FA Cup titles at Manchester United.
In the 1989-1990 season, Sir Alex Ferguson had just completed three years as a manager at Manchester United. During this tenure he did not win any major trophy and also finished just outside the relegation zone once. The 1990 FA Cup was the first major title.
Ferguson’s United beat Crystal Palace 1-0 in a replay after the initial match ended 3-3. The coach won his second FA Cup title in 1994 quite easily beating Chelsea 4-0 in the finals. After this, it had become quite a regular norm for Manchester United to regularly contend for big titles. Manchester United won it three more times under Sir Alex Ferguson in 1996, 1999 and 2004.
2. George Ramsay – 6
Aston Villa had a Golden age back in the days. During that time they won six FA Cups and played in eight finals. All of this was accomplished under George Ramsay. George Ramsay is one of the most successful managers in the history of English football.
The first FA Cup title came in the 1886-1887 season when Aston Villa beat West Brom 2-0 in the final. Following this win, Villa won it in the 1894-1895 season, 1896-1897, 1904-1905, 1912-1913 and in the 1919-1920 season. Overall, Aston Villa have won seven FA Cups in their history and six titles have come under the management of George Ramsay.
1. Arsène Wenger – 7
Arsenal are the club with the most successful period and history in the FA Cup having won it 14 times. Out of the 14 FA Cup titles, Arsenal have won seven titles under Arsène Wenger. Wenger is one of the best managers in the history of football.
Arsène Wenger won his first FA Cup at Arsenal in 1998 beating Nottingham Forest in the final. This made him the first foreign manager to win the double. Wenger won his second FA Cup title in the 2001-2002 season beating Chelsea 2-0 in the final.
The FA Cup win alongside Arsenal winning the Premier League on the penultimate matchday ensured Wenger’s second double at the club. Arsenal went on to win the Cup next season as well (2002-2003 season) beating Southampton in the final. Wenger then went on to win the FA Cup with Arsenal twice in a row yet again in the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 season.
