Manchester City considering £171m bid for Barcelona midfielder Pedri: Report

The Premier League giants are looking to replace Kevin De Bruyne at the Etihad.
According to Spanish publication Fichajes, Manchester City may break the market this summer by putting in a €200m (£171m) bid for Barcelona midfielder Pedri.
According to reports, the 21-year-old is a strong contender to succeed Kevin De Bruyne at the Etihad. This is after the renowned Belgian midfielder, who is regarded as one of the best in Premier League history, announced his departure after the end of the season.
According to the same source, the Cityzens are looking elsewhere to strengthen their midfield unit because former top target Florian Wirtz is reportedly getting closer to joining Bayern Munich.
As seen during his tenure as Barcelona’s manager from 2008 to 2012, Pep Guardiola is no stranger to some talented midfielders at the club. The tiki-taka style that the Catalan giants are renowned for was characterised at the time by artists like Andres Iniesta and Xavi.
Additionally, Barcelona’s current crop of stars haven’t done too badly as they aim to win both the Champions League and LaLiga this season.
The 2021 Golden Boy winner, who some have dubbed “the best midfielder in the world,” may be the target of a £171 million bid in the upcoming months. It is Pedri and his knowledge of the game that has apparently piqued the interest of the Man City manager the most.
But according to Fichajes, Barcelona view him as an indispensable component of their present endeavour. Thus, any attempt to sign him may be extremely difficult. Moreover, there has been no indication from the player’s representatives that they plan to leave Barcelona.
But Man City’s intense interest is blatant proof of how sought-after Pedri’s status has grown. Purchased from Las Palmas in 2019, Pedri has become Spain’s next big thing.
Given the impact he is already having on his team, it is easy to see why the excitement is warranted. In fact, manager Hansi Flick recently stated that he is unlike anyone else in his position at the moment.
