Pep Guardiola has won the Club World Cup trophy a record four times
Jack Grealish, a 29-year-old attacker for England, who played just seven league matches in 2024–25, has missed out on Manchester City’s FIFA Club World Cup 2025 squad, alongside former club captain Kyle Walker, who played on loan at AC Milan for the second half of the previous season.
Instead, England defender John Stones, who hasn’t played since February due to a thigh injury, is included.
Along with left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, and midfielders Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki, Pep Guardiola’s team has also signed these players this week, and they will all be going to America.
Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, 28, will keep up his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained in September, while Stones, 31, will play again despite missing England’s international match over the weekend.
James McAtee, a 22-year-old attacking midfielder and England captain, will continue to play in the European Under-21 Championship.
The Manchester City team, which will compete in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, have the potential to win the tournament. City are in Group G of the tournament, which consists of Juventus, Wydad and Al Ain. The English team will kick off their competition against Wydad on Wednesday, 18th June.
At the enlarged Club World Cup, that is one level of drama to look out for. It will be interesting to see how Manchester City’s new recruits perform and adjust to life under Pep Guardiola.
