Manchester City suffer another injury setback as Savinho was stretchered off in EFL Cup match

Pep Guardiola is already dealing with many injury problems.
During Manchester City’s Carabao Cup match against Tottenham, Savinho was carried off in tears, raising serious injury concerns for Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola had stated in his pre-game press conference that his main goal was to finish the game without suffering any injuries. But that was not the case as their key star seems to have sustained a serious ankle injury.
In the 63rd minute, the 20-year-old Brazilian sustained a major injury and was in great agony as the medical personnel carried him off the field, leaving the manager upset and raising questions about his availability in the upcoming weeks.
Savinho attempted to deliver a cross, but his landing looked clumsy, putting too much weight on his right ankle, causing him to collapse.
City’s medical staff chose to use a stretcher to take him off the field after he had been treated on the field for several minutes. Savinho was replaced by academy graduate Jacob Wright, another example of how City’s younger players are stepping up in the face of an increasing injury toll.
Savinho’s injury is a major setback for boss Guardiola, who already has a number of players sidelined by injuries. Due to a calf strain sustained during the warm-up, defender Manuel Akanji, who was initially chosen to start the game, was also forced to settle for a position on the bench shortly before kickoff.
In addition to Savinho, wingers Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish are also doubtful for the next matches. Ballon d’Or winner Rodri is expected to miss the remainder of the season, while Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, and teenage forward Oscar Bobb are also long-term absences.
City’s schedule involves a high-stakes Champions League match against Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday, followed by another league match against Brighton & Hove Albion, after their Premier League matchup with Bournemouth on Saturday.
