Newcastle United had their four bids rejected by the Eagles for Guehi.

Manchester City have turned their eyes on Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. Newcastle United previously had many failed attempts to sign Guehi this summer transfer window. Several of their bids were rejected by the Eagles.

The Magpies made four bids. Their most lucrative offer came in the range of £60million with £5m in add-ons. Even that did not suffice Crystal Palace’s demand. The club’s chairman Steve Parish revealed that they are holding out for “superstar money”.

The Eagles managed to keep the England international in the summer window and are now planning to tie him down to a new deal. His current contract expires in 2026.

However, the former Chelsea player has shown no intention of extending his contract and could leave the club for free in the next two years. Now City have put the player on their radar.

City might plan a move for the centre-back in 2025 summer. The Eagles don’t want to lose their star player for free in 2026 and could end up selling him for a cut price then.

Oliver Glasner’s side’s only option will be to persuade the player to extend his deal with the Premier League club. It could see the player earn higher wages. If they fail to do so then unwillingly Marc Guehi could be sold next summer.

Guehi has become a cornerstone for Palace. Last season he appeared in 29 matches across all competitions. He was also a preferred defender for England in the Euro 2024.

This season as well he has started in all the games and will be important for Crystal Palace as they look to challenge big sides.

Before going into next summer’s window, the Eagles will have to somehow convince the player to extend his deal. Otherwise, they will risk losing him for free. Big clubs are already ready to pounce on the opportunity.

Meanwhile, Palace will once again look to continue their good form under new manager Oliver Glasner. Glasner was appointed their head coach last season. Under him, the club played an attractive brand of football and finished 10th in the league in the 2023-24 season.
