Manchester City predicted lineup for Premier League 2024-25 season
Pep Guardiola’s team will be looking to win their fifth straight league title.
The defending champions are back for the 2024-2025 Premier League season. Manager Pep Guardiola has a variety of talented players to choose from. Manchester City have a stacked squad varying from attackers to midfielders and defenders as well. Pep Guardiola, a tactical mastermind, is likely to retain the majority of his key players from the previous season.
Let’s take a look at Manchester City’s predicted line-up for the 2024-2025 Premier League season.
Predicted lineup & formation for Manchester City: 4-3-3
Goalkeeper: Ederson Moraes
There were many rumours regarding Ederson’s transfer to the Saudi Pro League. However, all of those rumours eventually led to nothing serious since Ederson is set to stay at Manchester City. Pep Guardiola is surely going to entrust the goalkeeper and have faith in him for yet another Premier League season. His consistent performances in the Premier League for City have made him one of the best goalkeepers in the league.
Right-Back: Kyle Walker
One of the best defenders in the Premier League due to his vast experience and exceptional pace. Walker had played initially in the PL for Tottenham Hotspurs and Southampton but has been at his very best for Manchester City.
Kyle Walker is not a very technically skilled player but his incredible pace and work rate make him one of the best defenders in the league. Kyle Walker covers the entire right flank, up and down throughout the game. Walker is a very strong defender as well and is one of the best in one-on-one situations.
Centre-Back: John Stones
Pep Guardiola has brought out the best of John Stones and has made him into a makeshift midfielder as well. John Stones previously known well mainly for his defending has acquired and honed new skills under Pep Guardiola. Guardiola has given Stones many chances as a midfielder.
He has succeeded on numerous occasions in that role. Combining his experience in different positions, John Stones is a very calm, quick, versatile defender who has good aerial abilities as well.
Centre-Back: Ruben Dias
John Stones alongside Ruben Dias seems like a literal cheat code since both of them are high-quality defenders who pair so well. Dias has become one of the best defenders in the world under Pep Guardiola and is surely to retain his position. City did concede some goals in the pre-season which is mainly due to the absence of the majority of their defence. The presence of great defenders like Ruben Dias alongside others can help maintain defensive solidarity.
Left-back: Josko Gvardiol
Gvardiol is the most expensive defender in the history of football. Manchester City signed him from RB Leipzig in 2023 for a staggering €90 million. Despite the huge price tag, Gvardiol showed why he’s worth the big money.
He is arguably one of the best left-backs in the league and is great at attacking as well. His ball-carrying ability combined with his huge physical presence make him a great left-back.
Central Midfielder: Kevin De Bruyne
A Chelsea reject who proved himself in the Bundesliga and later had a lot of pressure when he returned back to the Premier League for Manchester City. Fortunately, Kevin De Bruyne rose to the occasion and outdid himself.
He has been great for City ever since he signed for them. De Bruyne’s technical abilities are great but his vision, awareness, passing abilities and range make him a great attacking midfielder. The Belgium often makes great passes through tiny pockets of spaces which not many midfielders can do.
Central-Defensive Midfielder: Rodrigo Hernández
Manchester City often lose games without Rodri. Rodri is a key player in midfield although he is not much of a goalscoring midfielder. Rather he is a very defensively intelligent midfielder who has good ball retention abilities and often disrupts opposition plays.
Rodri’s positioning in the midfield makes him a deep-lying playmaker. He shields the defence and contributes to attacking plays as well.
Central Midfielder: Bernardo Silva
One of the best dribblers in Manchester City. Bernardo Silva is a great dribbler. He has excellent close control of the ball and manages to escape from tight situations easily.
Over the years, Pep Guardiola has played Silva in multiple positions and he has done quite well. His versatility, intelligence, creativity and dribbling combined with his vast experience make him the perfect choice alongside Kevin De Bruyne.
Right-Winger: Phil Foden
Phil Foden is also quite a versatile player in Manchester City. Foden is arguably the best player to come from Manchester City‘s academy and has earned his spot over the years.
Phil Foden does play well as a midfielder however his technical ability, creativity and eye for goals make him a great winger as well.
Striker: Erling Haaland
Erling Haaland is a literal goalscoring machine. His positional awareness and clinical ability arguably make him the best goalscorer in the world. Haaland has so far played just two seasons in the Premier League and has already scored 63 goals and provided 13 assists. His dominant presence in and near the penalty box is due to his pace and towering strong figure.
Left-Winger: Jeremy Doku
Jeremy Doku joined Manchester City back in 2023 and has performed quite well for them since then. Doku managed to score three goals and provide nine assists in 29 Premier League games last season. His goalscoring numbers do need some work but his overall impact on the pitch is commendable.
Jeremy Doku is a very direct winger and does not hesitate to take on his opponents. He always tries to create a goalscoring chance or provide an assist.
