The club is looking to solve their centre-forward problem.

Manchester United have drawn up their shortlist of two strikers to try to sign in the current summer window. The club have listed Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and RB Leipzig‘s Benjamin Sesko on top of their wishlist, according to The Athletic.

However, there is a feeling at the club that they will have to offload some players to bring new faces to Old Trafford. Moreover, their strikers’ shortlist won’t be a straightforward signing.

Additionally, the Red Devils face competition from Newcastle United for Sesko, as the Magpies are considering replacing him with Alexander Isak, who has informed the club that he wishes to leave.

United have struggled in front of the goal previous season as their inexperienced centre-forward Rasmus Hojlund laboured to find the back of the net, scoring only four goals in 32 Premier League games.

Signing a prolific striker, who can solve the club’s goal drought, will be a major target for them if they are to challenge for trophies next season.

United, though, have reinfroced their attack, following the signing of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, but a striker remains a priority. Moreover, Villa have made it known they are not interested in selling England international Watkins.

But the club feel that the decision could be changed when the transfer window nears the end, despite Villa’s demand of £60m for the striker.

Currently, the club is in pre-season, and Ruben Amorim will be hoping that they bring a quality No.9 who can make things easier in front of the goal.

Benjamin Sesko or Ollie Watkins?

Watkins could be a better option as the England international is Premier League-proven and could be the answer to United’s striker problem.

Meanwhile, Sesko is also a decent option, but his signing could prove to be either a gamble or a hit, depending on how long it takes for him to settle into the league.
