Manchester United injury news ahead of Liverpool clash in Premier League
United have many injury concerns before the Liverpool game.
When Manchester United host Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, they will be attempting to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.
The Red Devils defeated Fulham 1-0 at Old Trafford to start their 2024–25 campaign. But last weekend they were defeated 2-1 at the Amex by Brighton & Hove Albion.
Erik ten Hag, the head coach, is under pressure to lead his team to victory in this match. The 20-time English champions would have a dismal start if they lost another game so early in the season.
Mason Mount’s luck seems not to be improving after an injury-plagued debut season at Old Trafford. Last weekend, he was substituted off the pitch at halftime against Brighton & Hove Albion due to an unidentified ‘problem’. Now he is set to be unavailable for the Liverpool game.
Left-back Luke Shaw hasn’t worn a red shirt since February. His calf injury which he suffered during preseason training has kept him out of the first few games of the current campaign. He would be undergoing rehabilitation over the first few weeks of the season. The club stated in this regard in August, “with a view to being available after the first international break.”
Due to a foot injury, which Leny Yoro received during a pre-season friendly against Arsenal, the £52 million summer acquisition was sidelined. According to early indications, he might be out for three months, until early November.
Rasmus Hojlund suffered a hamstring issue. The club estimated he would need a six-week time to get back in the game. He would miss the match against Liverpool. The striker might make a comeback during the international break.
After a preseason match against Liverpool, Victor Lindelof suffered a toe injury. Although it was initially thought to be minor, he was later seen using crutches. He has not been included in any of United’s three matchday squads this season.
Tyrell Malacia remained in rehabilitation after missing the whole 2023–2024 season due to a major anterior cruciate ligament injury. Ten Hag declared that he had “turned a point” and that, barring any more setbacks, he “will soon return to the pitch.” If all goes well, his preliminary comeback is set for October.
