Red Devils will miss a few key players ahead of the game.
Manchester United are already one step closer to reaching the final of the Europa League after last week’s 3-0 win against Athletic Bilbao.
On Thursday, they will host the Spanish club in the second leg of the competition with the expectation of finishing the game with a win. Despite their horror run in the Premier League, they still have a chance to play in the Champions League next campaign.
However, only a win in the final will guarantee them a spot, and they will be hoping to play their cards right and end the current term with a trophy regardless of the horrendous season in the league.
Ruben Amorim will put a strong lineup to get the job done tomorrow, but many of his first-team players will miss the game against Bilbao.
Manchester United’s injury list seems long, and Amorim will be without some first-team players against Bilbao. We take a look at Manchester United injury & suspension news vs Athletic Bilbao.
Manchester United injury news vs Athletic Bilbao
On Manchester United’s injury list is Diogo Dalot, a Portugal international, who may miss the rest of the season due to a calf injury that has put him out of action for Man United.
Lisandro Martinez, an Argentine international, is projected to miss the rest of 2025 after suffering a serious knee injury during Man United’s Premier League encounter against Crystal Palace on February 2.
Joshua Zirkzee, a Netherlands international, sustained a hamstring injury during Man United’s Premier League defeat to Newcastle on April 13 and is expected to be out for the rest of the 2024–25 season.
Matthijs de Ligt, who had just recovered from an injury, suffered a knee problem against Brentford in the first half. It’s unclear when the Dutchman will be available again, despite Amorim’s insistence that he is optimistic it will only be a small problem.
When asked about the severity of the centre-back’s injury after the match, United boss Ruben Amorim told MUTV: “I don’t know, we will check.
“I hope it is [only] a small issue because I am concerned, not only about this game [against Athletic Club, but about the squad for the next year.”
In a separate interview with the BBC, Amorim said: “I hope it’s nothing serious. We took a risk with [Harry] Maguire [having to come on].
“[Luke] Shaw had to go off [at half-time] because we need players for Thursday.”
Ayden Heaven’s ankle injury against Leicester City prior to the international break was not as bad as initially thought, and on April 13, he returned to the bench against Newcastle United. Since then, he has yet to be seen.
