The Red Devils will host the Magpies on Boxing Day.
Before this week’s Boxing Day Premier League matchup with Newcastle United, Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim addressed the media and commented on the club’s ongoing injury issues.
Bruno Fernandes will be out for the foreseeable future, including the Friday night match, Amorim revealed during his press conference. Kobbie Mainoo, who had a calf problem before the defeat at Aston Villa, joins him in the injury room.
Amorim emphasised that Mainoo had an opportunity to step up in the Portuguese midfielder’s absence, but the Englishman has also suffered an injury setback.
What did Ruben Amorim say?
The United manager stated that Mainoo would return before Fernandes, although he did not specify when the midfielder would do so.
“No, not for this game [Newcastle], they are recovering. I don’t think it will take a lot of time, I think Kobbie will return faster than Bruno.”
Other United injury updates

Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt will also not be able to play against Newcastle on Boxing Day, according to Ruben Amorim.
In response to a question regarding the two centre-backs’ possible comeback at his pre-game press conference, Amorim said:
“We are still working with them. They are not available for this one, but let’s see for the next one.”
Since the 2-2 draw with Tottenham before the most recent international break, Maguire has been sidelined due to a hamstring issue.
De Ligt has missed the last four games due to a back issue he had following the victory over Crystal Palace at the end of last month.
Will Kobbie Mainoo & Bruno Fernandes play against Newcastle?
No, they both are injured.
What injury has Fernandes suffered?
He has sustained a muscle injury.
Where do United stand in the table?
They are seventh in the Premier League table.
