Manchester United legend believes Cristiano Ronaldo can still score 20 Premier League goals
Cole believes Ronaldo’s goalscoring consistency is good enough to reach 20 goals in PL.
Andy Cole, a legend of Manchester United, believes that Cristiano Ronaldo is still good enough for the Premier League. Although the forward plays in the Saudi Pro League, Cole asserts Ronaldo could still score 20 goals in the Premier League despite being 39.
Only once, throughout his two stints at Old Trafford, has the five-time Ballon d’Or winner reached that tally. Ronaldo scored 31 goals in the English Premier League in 2007–08, earning him the Golden Ball award.
During his second stint at United, he fell a bit short of the 20-goal milestone on two occasions, recording 17 and 18 goals in another season. Last season, Ronaldo scored 50 goals in all competitions for Al-Nassr, a Saudi Pro League team. He continues to be a successful player for both the club and the nation.
In light of this, Cole responded to a question on Cardplayer.com about whether CR7 might succeed in the Premier League just a few weeks before his 40th birthday:
“That level of work rate, consistency and wanting to improve season on season. He is the ultimate professional and if kids don’t want to be like him as a footballer then they should retire already. Would he still score 20 goals in the Premier League? Definitely. He’ll always score goals because he has that quality. He’s just a monster, an absolute phenomenon.”
Ronaldo’s consistency in front of the goal is undeniable. In fact, he can still score double-digit goals in one of the toughest leagues. He is a complete poacher who can put the ball in the net from tight angles and over the years we have regularly witnessed it.
However, it all depends on his teammates. The striker nowadays waits in the box for his players to put crosses in, allowing him to probably beat defenders with his aerial ability. Although it could be challenging for him to score more than 20 goals at this age, reaching double digits should still be easy for the Portuguese in the Premier League.
