Kobbie Mainoo scored his first goal at Old Trafford

In yet another thrilling encounter at Old Trafford, Liverpool wasted the chance to take the lead again in the Premier League as they were held to a draw by Manchester United.

After dominating the hosts for extended stretches of time, manager Jurgen Klopp and his team will be wondering how they weren’t able to exact revenge for their FA Cup quarterfinal loss here last month. They paid a heavy price for missing many opportunities.

Luis Diaz’s goal was all that Liverpool had to show for their nearly complete first-half dominance, with 15 shots to none for United. Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, was appreciative of the visitors’ wastefulness and custodian Andre Onana’s saves.

Five minutes following the half, Bruno Fernandes, a defender for Liverpool, received an absolutely unbelievable cross from Jarell Quansah and finished above hapless goalie Caoimhin Kelleher, giving United a miraculous lifeline.Around 67 minutes, Kobbie Mainoo scored his first goal at home, a beautiful curling finish at the Stretford Finale, to put them lead.

However, with six minutes remaining in regular time, Mohamed Salah scored from the spot when Aaron Wan-Bissaka shoved in late on Harvey Elliott, giving Liverpool the draw—which seemed more than they earned. On goal differential, Liverpool is currently one goal below leaders Arsenal, with Manchester City trailing them by one point in third position.

Manchester United’s display of the greatest comparisons, which won them a point that seemed completely beyond them for the first forty-five minutes, will have left their supporters both bewildered and elated in the same breath. After tearing through the home defenders at whim in the first half, their only solace from being humiliated was that Liverpool was still in the game.Onana made a fantastic save to deny Dominik Szoboszlai, and as Liverpool positioned themselves in United’s half, the Hungarian midfielder missed two more excellent opportunities. Diaz’s goal in the 23rd minute, which he calmly finished after going unmarked, was hardly rewarded.

Although Wan-Bissaka’s reckless challenge on Elliott prevented United from celebrating yet another historic victory over Liverpool, Mainoo still produced a spectacular conclusion. The inconsistent performance left no indication as to whether manager Ten Hag, who is under fire, is on the correct track. Nevertheless, United can take solace in the fact that they have hurt Liverpool’s hopes of winning a 20th top-flight league title, which would equal the club’s record.
