Manchester United's Noussair Mazraoui return timeline following heart procedure
Mazraoui further adds to the injury crisis for the Red Devils.
Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui is going to be out for a few weeks after undergoing a successful heart procedure. The right-back was replaced in the 0-0 draw against Aston Villa on Sunday. The former Bayern player was later withdrawn from the Morocco squad for the October international break after complaining about heart palpitations.
He has now undergone the corrective procedure and is set to be out for a number of weeks on the sidelines. Mazraoui’s condition is “relatively common,” according to club sources, while the operation has been described as “minor.”
It is not a serious problem and the former Bayern Munich player should make a full recovery. This is not the first time the Moroccan international has suffered heart-related problems.
During his time with Bayern, the full-back had heart-related complications due to COVID-19. Mazraoui tested positive for COVID-19 during the World Cup in Qatar and endured some problems during his holidays.
After undergoing a test Bayern revealed that it was related to “a mild inflammation in his pericardium.” United were aware of the player’s problem but it was a different condition.
Ever since joining Manchester United, Mazraoui has appeared in 10 matches for the Red Devils. The club have not confirmed the exact timeline for his return, marking a significant blow for under-pressure manager Erik ten Hag.
The Dutch manager has already seen Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo pulled out from their respective national teams and now Noussair Mazraoui is the latest victim.
The former Ajax manager already has fewer options in the full-back area as Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are still recovering from their injuries with their return remaining unknown.
Meanwhile, the club are already enduring one of the woeful starts to the new season with just two wins and are sitting 14th in the Premier League table. Ten Hag, who is under scrutiny, will be on the sidelines for United’s next game against Brentford on 19th October.
