Building the new stadium will cost £2 billion.
Manchester United have confirmed that the £2 billion new stadium project will be financed privately despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s discussion of the possibility of taxpayer assistance.
After years of neglect at Old Trafford, which is now viewed as inferior to other world-class stadiums worldwide, the Red Devils administration has emphasized their intention to build a new 100,000-seat stadium, dubbed the “Wembley of the North.”
Manchester United’s project is expected to be very costly. It has been verified that they are currently in private talks with stakeholders and investors to get the required finances.
Manchester United set to finance stadium cost privately

United’s debt could increase if the stadium is privately financed. When Manchester United released its second-quarter financial results in February, it was evident that the club’s debt was already getting close to £1.3 billion.
Buying the rail yard around Old Trafford is another obstacle they must overcome. Freightliner owns that land, and negotiations to reach a deal have stalled due to a significant problem with the offered price.
Despite hosting the Champions League final in 2003, Manchester United’s stadium has received little attention in the last 20 years. Consequently, it was not chosen for Euro 2028; instead, Manchester City‘s Etihad Stadium was chosen.
Collette Roche has been named chief executive officer for new stadium development, as the Old Trafford executives continue to pursue their stadium idea.
She made it clear that United were in charge of the expenses, but she also requested infrastructure support from the government and local authorities.
