The 18-year-old could miss the start of new season with fresh injury.
Manchester United were handed a big blow in their last pre-season game. Leny Yoro hobbled off the pitch in their 2-1 defeat against Arsenal. The new signing from LOSC Lille was later captured on crutches wearing protective boots at United’s training base.
The £59 million signing now faces a prolonged layoff after just two games for United. The Red Devils had secured the signing of the youngster even though Real Madrid were lurking.
Yoro made his United debut against Rangers. Now he is set to be unavailable for the start of the upcoming season, which is a massive misfortune for the club. The Red Devils will face Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 10 before starting their Premier League season against Fulham six days later.
The club will soon provide an update on the defender’s injury, which will further determine his unavailability. But after his recent video, it appears the 18-year-old could be out for a lengthy spell.
Erik ten Hag is now left with only three options for his pre-season games, with Lisandro Martinez yet to return after winning the Copa America final recently. The Dutch manager will have Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof in central defence in his absence for the next matches.
Manchester United are set to add more depth at the back. They have been pursuing Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, with talks seeming to be going well. Jarrad Branthwaite is another option the club are currently looking to sign after their revised bid of £50 million was rejected by Everton.
The teenage defender was expected to make his debut in the upcoming competitive season, so this is undoubtedly devastating news. Judging by the way he was using crutches and protective boots, it appears that he may be sidelined for an extended period of time.
United will certainly have to add more defenders if they want to strengthen their defence. Otherwise, they will be left with the same defensive line as last season, and further injuries could turn the situation worse.
