The Red Devils endured an injury-prone campaign even last season.

Manchester United’s growing injury concerns worsened after the pre-season friendly match against Real Betis in the United States.

Following serious injuries to new signing Leny Yoro and striker Rasmus Hojlund in the previous game against Arsenal, Marcus Rashford and Antony also joined the list after being subbed off early against Betis due to their respective injury problems.

The Red Devils have travelled to the United States for their pre-season tour this summer, where they have been scheduled to face the likes of Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool.

In the opening friendly against Arsenal at the SoFi Stadium, United suffered a 2-1 defeat and two major injury concerns. After an impressive debut against Rangers, Leny Yoro started the match against the Gunners.

However, Yoro’s time on the pitch proved to be short-lived, as he had to be substituted out late in the first half after picking up a serious ankle injury in his left foot.

After bagging a goal in the game, Rasmus Hojlund too sustained a hamstring issue, as he came limping off the field in discomfort.

Several videos surfaced on social media showing Leny Yoro using crutches to walk with his left foot covered in a protective boot as he made his way towards the club’s team bus following a training session.

The potential of a long-term injury was officially confirmed by the club, as Leny Yoro is set to be sidelined for a period of three months with a foot injury, and Rasmus Hojlund is expected to be out for almost six weeks with a hamstring injury.

To make matters worse, during Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Real Betis at the Snapdragon Stadium, the club suffered two fresh injury blows in the form of Marcus Rashford and Antony.

Following a strong challenge by midfielder Sergi Altimira in the Betis penalty box, Rashford had to be substituted out just after the hour mark, as he went limping off the field with an injury to his right ankle. Despite initial medical treatment on the pitch, the 26-year-old forward was unable to continue as he headed straight down the tunnel.

Brazilian winger Antony was also subbed off with an apparent injury, as manager Erik ten Hag’s pre-season preparations have already hit major roadblocks.

The club is yet to release an official update regarding the extent of both the new injury concerns. After underwhelming campaigns last season, both Rashford and Antony aimed to have a better upcoming campaign with a strong pre-season under their belts.

Following their final USA pre-season tour game against Liverpool, Manchester United will head back home to face Manchester City in the FA Community Shield prior to the official start of the 2024-25 Premier League season.
