Manchester United Transfer News Roundup: Willing to sell academy graduate; Rashford exit difficult & more (21 January 2025)

Take a look at the Red Devils January transfer window plans.

After remaining quiet for the first two-thirds of the January transfer window, Manchester United appear to be in for an explosive finish. Tyrell Malacia, Alejandro Garnacho, and Marcus Rashford are still being closely linked to departures, while Ruben Amorim is apparently getting close to signing the first senior player of his rebuild.

Antony will soon complete his loan to Real Betis through the end of the season, but it looks like there may be other departures this month as well. We examine the Manchester United Transfer News Roundup with this.

Marcus Rashford’s exit from United becoming unlikely

It is becoming less and less likely that Marcus Rashford will leave Manchester United during the current winter transfer window. On Sunday, the forward was once more left out of the starting lineup as United lost to Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1 at home.

Ruben Amorim informed reporters following the final whistle that Rashford had made the choice to be not included in the team. Additionally, Amorim maintained that he would not bring back a player he did not think was ā€œthe best for the team.ā€

Numerous teams have expressed interest in signing Rashford on loan this month, including AC Milan, Juventus, Napoli, Como, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, West Ham, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Antony closing on joining Real Betis on loan?

According to Fabrizio Romano, Antony to Real Betis is a done deal. With no purchase option, the Man United player will join the LaLiga team on loan till the end of the current campaign.

If the agreement is reached, the 24-year-old’s salary will likely be paid by United as part of the loan until the conclusion of the season.

Antony has found it difficult to defend United’s 2022 choice to pay over Ā£80 million ($97.3 million) to sign him from Ajax. After Paul Pogba, he is the club’s second-most costly incoming acquisition.

Open to selling Alejandro Garnacho for the ā€˜right price’

According to reports, Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, is willing to sell Garnacho in order to restructure his faltering team. The winger’s future will be decided in the next few days. Officials from United and Napoli will soon meet to complete the trade.

The 20-year-old winger’s agents visited Stamford Bridge on Monday night, which fueled rumours that he could move to Chelsea.

The Blues joined Napoli as the front-runners to land Garnacho with United apparently valuing the academy graduate at £59 million.

United speed up signing of Milos Kerkez

Manchester United are likely to sign Bournemouth full-back Milos Kerkez and want to speed up his acquisition. Kerkez has emerged as one of the possible options connected to Man United, who are in dire need of a left-back.

Although a January transfer for Kerkez seems improbable, Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany has revealed that United still seem certain to add the young player to their roster.

United want Lecce youngster Patrick Dorgu

Patrick Dorgu, a youngster for Lecce, is United’s main target to provide Amorim with a much-needed wing-back alternative before the deadline.

The Red Devils are reportedly making progress in their negotiations to sign the 20-year-old, who is worth £30 million plus add-ons, according to The Athletic.
