[WATCH] Manchester United unveil renovated Carrington training facility

All the players and club staff, including executives, will now work at the club’s training facility.

Three years after Cristiano Ronaldo voiced his dissatisfaction with the Carrington facilities, Manchester United have launched a new men’s training facility.

The £50 million ($67 million) renovation of United’s first team building at their Carrington training ground is complete, and the team believes it will provide “world-class facilities” for players and staff. The award-winning architect Sir Norman Foster, who is also in charge of designing the club’s proposed £2 billion ($2.7 billion) stadium with 100,000 seats, oversaw the project, which took a year to complete.

It was completed on schedule and within budget, and it has opened over seven days before the Premier League season begins.

When co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe bought his 27.7% ownership in the club in February 2024, he contributed $300 million to assist in funding the project. In his notorious interview with Piers Morgan in 2022, Ronaldo referred to the men’s facilities as outdated, which ultimately led to him leaving the club by mutual consent and relocating to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

Manchester United have finally opened a new training facility in Carrington

This is the first significant improvement to the men’s infrastructure since the training site opened in 2000. In the 2022 interview, Ronaldo stated:

“Nothing changed, surprisingly. Not only the pool, the jacuzzi, even the gym. Even the kitchen, the chefs, whom I appreciate, lovely people. They stopped in time. It surprised me a lot. I thought I would see other things, technologies and infrastructure.

“Unfortunately, we see a lot of what I used to see at 21, 22 and 23 years old. It really surprised me. Since Ferguson left, I haven’t seen an evolution at the club. Progress is zero. You have to tear it down and rebuild it.”

Many members of United’s executive team, who were formerly based at Old Trafford, will now work in the new facility. Players and staff provided feedback during the building’s design process, which prioritised connectedness, openness, and functionality, along with more natural light and spacious work areas.

The new facility features updated technology and equipment with an emphasis on teamwork, rehabilitation, nutrition, and fitness.
