The Red Devils will take on the worst-performing team in the division.

Manchester United will return to their base to welcome Southampton in their 21st Premier League game. The Red Devils are poised to return to winning ways in the league after a series of disappointing and unfavourable results. United gunned down Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup last weekend and are running high on confidence heading into this fixture. Anything less than a win will put their dream of European football next season into grave danger.

Southampton on the other hand have problems of their own. It’s been a miserable season by all means and things have not gotten any better. The Saints are battling relegation and are placed at the bottom of the table with 16 losses in 20 games.

They are desperate to turn things around in their favour and are hoping for a miracle to happen. Moreover, their winless run on the road raises a lot of concern as they gear up to take a trip to Old Trafford.

Kick Off

Friday, January 17, 1:30 AM IST

Venue: Old Trafford

Form

Manchester United (in all competitions): W-D-L-L-L

Southampton (in all competitions): W-L-L-L-D

Players to watch

Lisandro Martínez (Manchester United)

The Argentine international has been consistently performing on an exceptional level for Manchester United this season. He has been rock solid at the back and has also made notable contributions upfront. Lisandro’s on-point defensive instincts combined with his experience make him one of the finest centre-backs in England.

Martinez is a proper ball-playing centre-back with an aggressive style of play. He averages 4.3 ball recoveries per game and also has two goal contributions to his name.

Tyler Dibling (Southampton)

Southampton will look up to their target man Tyler Dibling to take them over the line against the Red Devils. The 2006-born midfielder has come up through the ranks and has put in a lot of good performances across all competitions. Still 18, Dibling has come up through the ranks and has all the characteristics to make it big.

He is technically smart and can also operate as a right and left winger if the need arises. The wonderkid has been tried as a striker and the outcome has been very positive with the youngster scoring a brace in the last game.
