Manchester United willing to sell Lisandro Martinez to Real Madrid for right price
The Red Devils are set to offload a few first-team players.
If Real Madrid are prepared to pay for the defender, Manchester United are reportedly open to trade Lisandro Martinez.
Even though Martinez has been with Old Trafford for two and a half seasons, INEOS does not view him as invincible. The 26-year-old, who had previously played for Ajax under the Dutchman, was a recruit of Erik ten Hag and missed much of the 2023–2024 season due to injury.
Martinez has started every Premier League game for United this season, with the exception of three. Additionally, the team’s and his personal poor play have left the Red Devils mired in 13th place.
United haven’t been particularly impressive, even with the newly appointed Ruben Amorim in charge. Martinez was aerially overpowered by Nikola Milenkovic for the first goal in Saturday’s 3-2 home loss to Nottingham Forest, and he committed a terrible mistake on the line for the third.
Martinez is not ‘off limits’ for United in the forthcoming January transfer window, as reported by talkSPORT. The Argentine, who cost a whopping £57 million in the summer of 2022, is reportedly of interest to Real Madrid.
According to the same report, INEOS is willing to part ways with almost every player in Amorim’s team, with the exception of the gifted young players Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo, and Amad Diallo. Leny Yoro, a summer acquisition, is likewise very unlikely to be sold so quickly after he fully recovered from a chronic injury.
Unless sales are made, Amorim will not be allowed to freely move in the transfer market this winter due to Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) regulations. Furthermore, INEOS’ purported position implies that well-known players like Martinez, Bruno Fernandes, and possibly Marcus Rashford might all be for sale.
As they search for a full-back, Real Madrid are rumoured to be interested in Martinez as well as fellow United player Diogo Dalot.
Garnacho and Mainoo, two academy graduates who are out of limits, could be easy for the Red Devils to persuade to stay, but Amad’s case is more difficult. Amorim is hopeful that all parties will agree to prolong the Ivorian’s contract, which expires in June 2025.
