The former Manchester United forward was arrested a while back.
In his first sit-down press interview in France, Marseille star Mason Greenwood requested not to be questioned about his previous domestic abuse case.
The 23-year-old attacker left the Premier League team Manchester United in the summer of 2024 and sealed a £27 million ($34 million) move to Stade Velodrome. January 2022 was the last time he played for the Red Devils.
This is due to Greenwood’s conviction that month and subsequent bond release. In February 2023, all charges in a case involving claims of assault, attempted rape, and coercive and abusive behaviour were withdrawn.
The one-cap England player, who is getting ready to change allegiance to Jamaica, had no chance of returning to Old Trafford, therefore he was permitted to spend the 2023–24 season on loan at Getafe, a LaLiga team, where he scored 10 goals and took home the team’s Player of the Year award.
This season, he has scored 13 goals for Marseille, won Ligue 1 Player of the Month for December, and is getting a lot of attention. However, when Greenwood sat down to talk, he requested not to be questioned about past incidents in his personal life, according to Telefoot.
Regarding his transfer to Marseille, Greenwood did remark, “My first game at the Velodrome gave me goosebumps. It’s extraordinary. I’ve never seen them sing for ninety minutes straight. In 2024–2025, he has been giving his followers a lot to cheer about.
European powerhouses like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid are reportedly keeping an eye on Greenwood’s position due to his impressive play. His capacity to routinely impact games, however, has won him over the club’s supporters, who are keen for him to remain on the team in the long run.
Given that the Premier League team is said to have included a sell-on clause in the agreement that took Greenwood to France, United may also profit from any possible sale. According to reports, the provision gives United 50% of any future transfer fees, thus his success at Marseille also benefits his old team monetarily.
