Mason Greenwood replies to backlash from Marseille fans after his move to Ligue 1 club

Greenwood completed permanent move to French club from Manchester United.
Mason Greenwood has finally spoken about the backlash he has been receiving since his permanent move to Marseille. Greenwood completed a long-term move to the French side after they splashed out €30m (£25m/$34m) to sign the forward.
United finally managed to find a permanent club for Greenwood who was on loan to Getafe last season, as the club had no intention of keeping the forward after protest from fans.
However, Marseille fans have been against the move as well after they held a protest following the move of Greenwood to the Ligue 1 side. Marseille mayor Benoit Payan instigated the protest and called for the club to avoid signing the forward, who has been termed as a disgrace.
Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 after charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive and controlling behaviour were brought against him.
However, these were dropped in February 2023 when important witnesses left the case and “new material came to light.” Since his imprisonment, Greenwood has not played for United. But, he claims to have moved on from his past and is focused on the future with his girlfriend Harriet Robson and their daughter.
The forward finally acknowledged the backlash and told La Provence: “Obviously, I am aware of this debate and I understand the question. I do not wish to enter into any controversy. I already had the opportunity to express myself on this subject last year, it is now behind us. With my partner, we rebuilt ourselves together, as a couple, we have just spent a year in Madrid.
“We have been together since we were 15, 16-years-old. Today, we have a beautiful little girl who has just celebrated her first birthday. I am now looking towards the future and I am only focused on Olympique de Marseille and on our new life, together, in Marseille.”
Greenwood will once again start a new life in a different country. He will hope to replicate his Getafe form, where he scored 10 goals and won the Getafe Player of the Year.
