Marseille star Mason Greenwood set for international football after receiving Jamaican citizenship: Report

The Marseille forward will now represent Jamaica at the international level.
Mason Greenwood has been handed Jamaican citizenship, allowing him to play for the nation, as the winger considers returning to international football.
Five years have passed since the 23-year-old Greenwood received his only England cap while he was still a Manchester United player.

At that time, the young player was expelled from the senior squad after a video surfaced showing him and Phil Foden taking ladies back to the team hotel in Iceland. They had broken the COVID protocols. Since then, the forward (former) has not played for England internationally.
He was taken into custody in January 2022 on charges of coercive behaviour, assault, and attempted rape. A year later, after the “withdrawal of key eyewitnesses and fresh evidence coming to light,” the Crown Prosecution Service dismissed the charges.
Greenwood must now make a choice. The Marseille attacker can change allegiances and play for the Jamaican national team after permanently leaving Old Trafford for the south of France last summer.
Greenwood cleared to represent Jamaica at the international level
Greenwood has been given clearance by the English FA to join the Reggae Boyz after obtaining his Jamaican citizenship. He may be permitted to take part as early as next month in the nation’s World Cup qualifying matches against Trinidad & Tobago and Bermuda.
According to FIFA regulations, a player may switch nationality if he has accumulated fewer than three competitive caps for a nation. Also, he was under 21 while doing so. Additionally, while playing for their original country, they must have been eligible for the new one.
Greenwood satisfies the requirements because he was only 19 years old when he made his senior England debut.
Earlier this year, Jamaican manager Steve McClaren expressed his desire to have Greenwood join his team, and it looks like he might be getting his way.
”We are in contact all the time, with him and his family.
“I am very confident he only wants to play for Jamaica. It is up to him when he moves forward with that. The ball is in his court,” McClaren explained in March.
