The October international break will provide some thrilling games.

Club football will come to a halt for two weeks as the October International break is set to take over. Many players have joined their respective national teams to play in tournaments such as AFCON qualifiers, UEFA Nations League and World Cup qualifying matches taking place during this period.

There are set to be many top international matches as the fans will now turn their focus on the international games this week. We have many important encounters coming up. In this article, we take a look at the top nine international matches fans should not miss.

9. Gibraltar vs San Marino (11 October)

Gibraltar are currently on a hot streak and have avoided defeat in three games following 13 consecutive losses without a goal. However, they will face a San Marino team who will be feeling confident following their first-ever competitive victory. Expect an interesting event since these two minnows will recognize the opportunity to grab a rare win.

8. Saudi Arabia vs Japan (10 October)

Two of the biggest names in Asian football will face each other. Now under Roberto Mancini’s leadership, Saudi Arabia want to win their World Cup qualifying group.

To get there they will need to defeat current leaders Japan, who have had a flawless qualification start. There will be a lot of entertainment from beginning to end because Samurai Blue have scored a ton of goals so far and will be looking to sweep this game.

7. England vs Greece (11 October)

Greece and England have both had flawless Nations League qualifying records thus far, but that is about to change.

The Three Lions are obvious clear favourites in this game despite a series of injuries that saw many players withdrawn from the squad. But they have enough quality in the roster and will hope to get the job done.

6. Venezuela vs Argentina (11 October)

Argentina, the current world champions, need only two victories from two games this month to qualify at this early level, securing their place in the 2026 tournament in North America.

Although they would often be overwhelming favourites to defeat Venezuela, the hosts have made a significant impact in qualifying thus far, dropping just two of their first ten games and defeating Uruguay last time out. They are a formidable team at the moment and also defeated Mexico and drew with Canada at the Copa America.

5. Spain vs Denmark (13 October)

Despite being a little below the elite of European powerhouses, Kasper Hjulmand’s team are now leading their Nations League group after defeating both Serbia and Switzerland 2-0 in their most recent matches.

After unexpectedly drawing to Serbia, Spain regrouped quickly and defeated the Swiss 4-1. It is enough to indicate that La Roja, who are the reigning champions of the Nations League, will hope to defend the title this time as well.

4.  Mexico vs USA (16 October)

Although this will be a friendly game between both teams the encounter will consist lot of entertainment. USA will play a different brand of football after appointing Mauricio Pochettino as their next manager. The North American side are on a seven-game unbeaten streak against Mexico including a 2-0 win in the CONCACAF Nations League final.

3. Italy vs Belgium (11 October)

As Luciano Spalletti’s team look to move over their Euro 2024 setback, Italy have gotten off to a fast start in a group that also includes European heavyweights France. Their new era is going great so far.

Belgium are trending in the other direction. There have been poor on-field performances, and major concerns are being raised regarding manager Domenico Tedesco as well as some of their ageing stars. A bad outcome here could lead to significant changes.

2.  Belgium vs France (15 October)

It doesn’t get any simpler for Belgium during their international break. They welcome France back to Stade Roi Baudouin four days after their trip to Italy.

During the most recent international break, France defeated Belgium 2-0, which led to a great deal of criticism directed against Belgium. This should be a must-watch since the hosts will be seeking retribution.

1. Germany vs Netherlands (15 October)

Netherlands longtime adversaries of Germany will travel to Munich for another round of Nations League action at the same time setting up another titanic match in Germany.

They shared 32 shots in a thrilling 2-2 draw last month, demonstrating a true attacking effort. Both will want to win three points and establish their dominance in the group.
