Mexico predicted lineup for FIFA World Cup 2026 ft. Guillermo Ochoa & Raúl Jiménez

Mexico are in Group G of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The weight of home expectations will be used to evaluate Mexico’s FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign. Normally, it would be obvious to aim for the top spot in a group that includes South Africa, the Korean Republic, and the Czech Republic.

The team has been assembled across several generations. While Alvarez, Jimenez, and Cesar Montes provide the club with experience, Ochoa’s presence is meaningful.

Armando Gonzalez, Brian Gutierrez, Obed Vargas, and Gilberto Mora provide freshness on the other end. Julian Quinones provides Mexico with physicality and direct running, while Santiago Gimenez provides a penalty-box striker.

Mexico predicted lineup: 4-2-3-1

GK: Guillermo Ochoa

Guillermo Ochoa is set to make history at the World Cup when he starts for the co-host nation and makes his sixth World Cup appearance. No Mexican goalie has more experience than Ochoa at the World Cup, having been their starting goalkeeper at every World Cup. Hence, we can expect him to be in the starting lineup in their opening game.

RB: Jorge Sánchez

Jorge Sanchez will lead Mexico’s heart of defence as the centre-back will be counted on by the head coach to take charge of defence alongside Cesar Montes as Mexico will be hoping to prevail in their opening World Cup match in their bid to reach the knockout stage.

CB: César Montes

Since he switched from La Liga to the Russian Premier League, which is broadcast on significantly fewer screens in North America, Montes has lost the attention of many Mexican supporters. He hasn’t become much smaller, though. As a member of El Tri’s locked-in centre-back combination, the mountainous defender makes good use of his stature both at the back and when he advances on set pieces.

CB:  Johan Vasquez

In addition to becoming a fixture for Genoa and leading the Serie A team, the left-footed centre back appears to be improving steadily. He must lead the defence. In addition to being tough to press and skilled in the air in both boxes, Vasquez is at ease with the ball at his feet.

LB:  Jesus Gallardo

Tell Mexico fans that one of the few holdovers from the 2018 World Cup would be Gallardo. Two things have allowed him to keep his place. First, no one has been good enough to replace him. Mateo Chavez’s charge is likely arriving too late in the cycle to displace the experienced defender from the XI.

Second, he’s been very good, helping Toluca to consecutive titles and giving El Tri coaches an extra dimension with the way he gets forward from the left back spot.

DM: Edson Alvarez

The 28-year-old continues to play a crucial role in the Mexico XI. Alvarez should always be on the pitch, but Aguirre isn’t always sure where to put him. He can drop in the middle of the pitch and the centre-backs to create a three-man look, and he is occasionally used as a centre-back.

However, when he can also pass forward and occasionally join the assault, he is at his best. Alvarez will probably play every minute of the World Cup since Mexico are aware of what they are getting with him.

CM: Alvaro Fidalgo

Alvaro Fidalgo will operate as a central midfielder and will be looking to have control of the game, as Mexico also looks to dominate the game with most possession. Fidalgo also operated in the middle of the pitch against Serbia as the player executed perfectly as La Tri put five goals past Serbia.

AM: Brian Gutierrez

Brian Gutierrez is set to act as an attacking midfielder and will help the forward feed balls and create goalscoring chances. He will play a major role to play in the attack and help Mexico find as many goalscoring chances as possible in the matches.

RW: Roberto Alvarado

Despite all of the talent the Celaya product has, it seems he will play in Mexico for the duration of his career. Nevertheless, if he can stave off a charge from other attackers, the 27-year-old will probably start his second World Cup.

At the international level, Alvarado’s greatest asset or liability may be his adaptability. On the field, however, he consistently poses a scoring threat and can work effectively with those around him.

CF: Raúl Jiménez

Raúl Jiménez, Mexico’s hero and seasoned striker, will be the centre of attention. After a stellar season with Premier League team Fulham, where he scored nine goals, the 34-year-old is heading to the World Cup.

LW: Alexis Vega

However, he has never been able to achieve the same level of success for Mexico as he has for Toluca. Although Mexico can rely on other dynamic attackers, Vega has prior experience and offers a slight edge over his replacements.

Since he may stay wide or drift centrally to set up Jimenez, the only question is how big a role to give him and precisely where you want him to appear in the attack.

When is Mexico’s first game?

It’s on 12th June, 12:30 am IST.

Who else is in their group?

South Africa, South Korea and Czech Republic.
