Mexico starting lineup vs Czechia confirmed for FIFA World Cup 2026 match

Mexico and Czechia last faced each other in 2000 in a friendly.

Last week, Mexico became the first team to qualify for the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. And now, it’s time for them to play their last group stage game of the summer competition against Czechia. The game will be played at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on Wednesday, June 24.

Javier Aguirre’s men started their 2026 World Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory over South Africa. They dominated against Bafana Bafana, with Julian Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez getting their names on the scoresheet.

In the second game, they faced South Korea, who recorded a 2-1 win over Czechia in their opening fixture. The Taegeuk Warriors gave tough competition to Javier Aguirre’s side; however, thanks to an error by South Korean goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu, El Tri broke the deadlock in the 50th minute.

On the other side, Czechia are currently third in Group A with one point after two games. A win over El Tri will help Czechia stay alive in the race to qualify for the knockout round as one of the top-ranked third-placed sides.

Thoughts on the lineup

El Tri veteran Guillermo Ochoa was expected to start in the goal and get the opportunity to play in his sixth World Cup. However, Raúl Rangel will start the game with gloves. Jorge Sánchez and Luis Gerardo Chávez will play as the full-backs, while Israel Reyes and César Montes will feature in the centre-back duo against Czechia.

Edson Álvarez will give the co-hosts depth in defence, while Gilberto Mora and Luis Romo will add width and create goal-scoring opportunities for the frontman, Martínez Ayala. Roberto Alvarado and Julián Quiñones will play on the wings.
