Palestinian FA confirmed the forward Suleiman Al-Obeid was killed in an Israeli attack.

Mohamed Salah, the forward for Liverpool, has criticised UEFA for failing to disclose the manner of death of a football player known as the “Palestinian Pele” in its homage to him.

Suleiman Al-Obeid, 41, was killed in an Israeli attack in Gaza, according to a statement released by the Palestinian Football Association (PFA) on Wednesday.

On X (Twitter), UEFA described him as “a talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest of times.”

Salah, an Egyptian star, replied to that UEFA post on Saturday: “Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?”

With over 19 million X followers, Salah, 33, has previously demanded an end to the conflict’s massacres and the opening of Gaza to allow help.

In an October 2023 Instagram video, Salah stated:

“It is not always easy to speak in times like this. There has been too much violence and too much heartbreak and brutality.

“The escalations in the recent weeks is unbearable to witness. All lives are sacred and must be protected. The massacres need to stop. Families are being torn apart.”

The health ministry administered by Hamas claimed on Saturday that Israeli military operations over the past 24 hours have also resulted in at least 38 deaths and 491 injuries.

In the past, Liverpool star Salah has urged “world leaders to come together to prevent further slaughter of innocent souls” during the conflict and argued for the admission of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Al-Obeid, who got married and had three girls and two sons, made 24 appearances for his national team and scored twice, according to the PFA.
