Morocco are expected to blend experience and youthful flair as they look to build on their impressive result against Brazil.

Morocco arrived at the FIFA World Cup 2026 carrying the weight of expectation. Ever since their historic run to the semi-finals in 2022, the North African nation have been viewed as more than just dark horses on the international stage.

Against Brazil in their opening Group C fixture, they once again demonstrated why they remain one of the most respected teams outside Europe and South America, earning a valuable point against one of the tournament favourites.

Now their attention turns to Scotland. While the Scots began their campaign with a victory over Haiti, Morocco will enter this contest believing they possess the quality to take control of Group C. The blend of battle-hardened veterans and exciting young talents has given Walid Regragui a squad capable of competing with anyone, and another strong performance could put them in a commanding position before their final group-stage fixture.

Who all will be expected to be in the starting lineup?

Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou is expected to continue between the posts and remains one of Morocco’s most influential figures. The experienced goalkeeper has built a reputation as one of international football’s most reliable shot-stoppers. His composure under pressure and ability to produce decisive saves in big moments make him a crucial part of Morocco’s defensive foundation.

Morocco’s backline combines experience, athleticism and technical quality, allowing the team to remain solid defensively while also contributing to build-up play. Achraf Hakimi is expected to start at right-back, where his explosive pace and attacking instincts make him a constant threat. On the opposite flank, Noussair Mazraoui offers similar versatility, capable of defending diligently before quickly joining attacks.

In central defence, Mouhamadou Diop is likely to partner Chadi Riad. Diop provides physicality and aerial strength, while Riad brings composure in possession and the confidence to step forward with the ball. Together, they will be tasked with limiting Scotland’s physical forward line and maintaining Morocco’s defensive shape.

One of Morocco’s greatest strengths lies in their ability to control games through midfield while remaining dangerous in transition.Neil El Aynaoui is expected to provide balance and defensive security in deeper areas. Alongside him, Ayyoub Bouaddi could be entrusted with helping dictate possession and progressing the ball through midfield.

Further forward, Azzedine Ounahi is likely to operate as the creative heartbeat of the side. His ability to glide past opponents and find pockets of space makes him one of Morocco’s most technically gifted players. Bilal El Khannouss is expected to complement him with intelligent movement and creativity between the lines

Together, the quartet will be responsible for controlling the rhythm of the contest and supplying the attacking players ahead of them.

Morocco’s attack may not rely on a traditional centre-forward, but it possesses enough technical quality and movement to unsettle any defence.Brahim Díaz is expected to operate in an advanced role, drifting into dangerous areas and using his close control to create opportunities. His ability to unlock compact defences gives Morocco an additional creative dimension in the final third.

Leading the attack is likely to be Ismael Saibari. The versatile forward combines intelligent movement with strong technical ability and could play a key role in stretching Scotland’s defensive line. His link-up play and willingness to drop into midfield areas make him an important component of Regragui’s system.

Predicted Morocco XI vs Scotland (4-2-3-1): Yassine Bounou (GK), Achraf Hakimi, Mouhamadou Diop, Chadi Riad, Noussair Mazraoui, Neil El Aynaoui, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Brahim Díaz, Azzedine Ounahi, Bilal El Khannouss,Ismael Saibari,
