Min-Jae joined Bayern Munich this season

Giants of Serie A Napoli are considering the prospect of bringing back Kim Min-jae from German powerhouse Bayern Munich in the summer.

The South Korean hasn’t exactly performed at the same level as he did during the Partenopei’s Scudetto-winning season since joining the Bundesliga’s biggest clubs in the summer. Napoli is now considering the possibility of having the defender return.According to Il Mattino (via CN24), Aurelio de Laurentiis, the club CEO, is working on a strategy for Napoli to try to get Kim back to the team in the summer. The current Italian champions hope to borrow Kim to the Maradona on loan in order to capitalise on his disappointing season at Bayern.

Eric Dier and Matthijs de Ligt have been Thomas Tuchel’s go-to centre-back duo for Bayern Munich over the past weeks. As a result, Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae were both benched, and neither player performed particularly well in Bayern’s 3-2 Bundesliga loss against Heidenheim.

Regardless of the centre-back duo, Bayern has been incredibly challenging to maintain clean sheets this season. However, Tuchel has given Dier and De Ligt a consistent run in his starting eleven choices.

Kim Min-jae is more likely to stick around and strive to regain his starting position. According to Tobi Altschäffl of Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), despite playing fewer minutes, the South Korean international is still at ease with Bayern.

He is prepared and eager to put in the necessary effort to prove himself as a reliable starting defenseman under Tuchel’s eventual successor, therefore the club is not currently discussing his summer move out of Bayern.

It was anticipated that Kim, who took Bayern 50 million euros and arrived from SSC Napoli this summer after helping the team win its first Scudetto in over 30 years, would be a starter for the team following Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard left for Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, respectively.

Although he did start most of the games he played for Bayern, Tuchel preferred to use Dier and De Ligt, who were signed from Tottenham Hotspur throughout the January transfer window, because other centre-backs would be given opportunities due to their participation with the South Korean national team throughout the Asian Cup in January and early February.
