The Oranje are seeking their first win of the World Cup campaign in tonight’s match.
The Netherlands will take on Sweden for a Matchday 2 fixture in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group F at NRG Stadium in Houston on June 20. After being held to a draw by Japan in their opener, the Oranje will face a tough test against the high-flying Swedes, who sit top of the group.
The Dutch, still chasing their maiden World Cup title, took the lead twice in the match against Japan. However, poor defending meant that they conceded both times, as the match ended 2-2. As a result, Ronald Koeman’s side are third in the group going into the clash.
Sweden, meanwhile, thrashed Tunisia 5-1 in their first match. The result was so damning for the African side that head coach Sabri Lamouchi was sacked. Viktor Gyokeres and co. will represent a big challenge for the Oranje in tonight’s game. This is especially true considering their historical head-to-head record, with the Oranje not beating Sweden in the last nine years.
