The All Whites have never beaten Iran in International men’s football.

New Zealand are the lowest-ranked team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They are the most dominant team in Oceania; however, they will need to change their style as they enter the World Cup.

New Zealand qualified for the FIFA World Cup by claiming the single automatic qualification spot from the OFC. They defeated New Caledonia 3-0 in the final qualifying round in Auckland. The All Whites recorded a series of dominant victories in all their matches in the qualifying round, including 7-0 against Fiji and 8-1 against Vanuatu.

Thus, with a strong run in the qualifying round, New Zealand are set to feature in their third FIFA World Cup. The All Whites have played in the summer competition twice before, in 1982 and 2010.

In 1982, they lost three consecutive games against Scotland, the Soviet Union and Brazil. However, they performed better in 2010, when they drew three consecutive matches against Slovakia, Italy and Paraguay.

New Zealand have dived into decent performances in their last few games. With that, they could be the dark horses. At the FIFA World Cup, they have been drawn in Group G alongside Iran, Egypt and Belgium.

Tim Payne, a social media sensation, would be a player to watch at the World Cup. However, Chirss Wood would have the responsibility of scoring for the All Whites. Wood is an old-school striker who prefers playing no-nonsense football.

Meanwhile, Elijah Just, who was shortlisted for PFA Scotland’s Premiership Player of the Year award, is also a player to have one’s eyes on.

Chris Wood would be New Zealand’s primary striker; with a lot of experience in his kitty, he will be backed by Elijah Just, Sarpreet Singh, and Matthew Garbett. Marko Stamenic and Joe Bell help by providing reliability to the team’s framework.

Meanwhile, Liberato Cacace, Michael Boxall, Fin Surman and Tim Payne will play in the defence, backed by Max Crocombe in the goal.
