[WATCH] Neymar leaves pitch due to small injury

The Brazilian led Santos to a 2-0 victory in the competition.

In the Paulista quarterfinals, Santos defeated Red Bull Bragantino 2-0, but Neymar was forced off due to an injury. Earlier, he had struck a fantastic free kick from a challenging position.

In the 76th minute, the Brazilian attacker fell on the ground while clutching his left leg. Despite his best efforts, he was unable to continue and had to be replaced.

Neymar managed to leave without assistance, despite fears of a serious injury. He stayed on the bench to get medical assistance rather than going straight to the locker room.

Although Santos have not yet provided an official update, preliminary information indicates that the problem might just be mild discomfort or exhaustion as the player hasn’t played so many games since last year.

Pedro Caixinha, the head coach of Santos, stated at a news conference following the game that Neymar will be assessed when the club starts training again on Wednesday.

“Let’s wait for him to be evaluated, let’s hope everything is fine on Wednesday,” he said.

Due to injury, Neymar only played seven games for Saudi team Al Hilal in more than 18 months before rejoining his childhood team Santos as a free agent during the winter transfer window.

Neymar scored his third goal for Santos in his past four games on Sunday. The player also has three assists to his name as he aims to return to his peak fitness level.

Neymar dismisses injury scare

However, it seems Neymar is currently fine. He confirmed in his recent Instagram post dismissing any concern of injury and revealed he is doing okay.

Neymar, 33, wrote on Instagram: “I’m fine, I felt uncomfortable and thought it was better to spare myself! It’s been a while since I played a game with this intensity … I’m so happy to be getting back into my best physical shape! Thank you everyone for the messages.”
