Neymar nearing agreement on new Santos contract: Report

The Brazilian is currently recovering from COVID-19.
Santos Football Club have shared some exciting news with their loyal supporters in Brazil, a sunny football paradise. The legendary team is getting ready to formally declare that Neymar, their brilliant number 10, is on the verge of extending his contract, prolonging his electrifying presence until the middle of 2026.
In a clever negotiating move, the club and Neymar’s group have already reached an amicable agreement to extend the samba starlet’s contract, which is set to expire on June 30.
Anticipate the ink to appear on the deal once the squad returns from their break, which begins on Friday, June 13. By then, the forward should have recovered from COVID-19.
Maintaining Neymar’s flair for Santos is no easy task. Together with ‘Team Neymar’, the club have reached some remarkable financial agreements.
Santos have promised to use a carefully thought-out instalment plan to pay off the backlog of Neymar’s image rights payments, which have been outstanding for five months.
In a clever move, the extended contract avoids a set image rights price in favour of performance-tied bonuses, which will be sweetened by Neymar’s on-field performance, whether it be goals scored or appearances made. Reliable rumours indicate that a pay increase is also imminent.
Neymar Santos Sr., Neymar’s father, provided insight into the developing story amid the excitement around the opening of a new area of the club’s training facility.
He said:
“We’re keen to keep our Menino da Vila here for the long haul. I’m pulling out all the stops to have him central to this rebuild.”
With Marcelo Teixeira, the club president, by his side, he spoke in a casual manner. In a humorous narrative that delighted the gathered audience, he described how he quickly brought Neymar back from Saudi Arabia in just two days, mocking the fans’ eagerness by asking:
“What’s the rush, really?”
The former Barcelona player’s father confirmed their decision to stay rooted at Santos at a news meeting despite other suitors’ approach.
