The 33-year-old scored a brace in Santos’ recent match against Esporte Clube Juventude.
Neymar provided a brutal reply when asked about his potential return to the Brazil national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The 33-year-old has seemingly returned to his top form as he helped Santos secure a convincing win against Juventude, contributing two goals in the game.
Despite injuries, he has now netted three goals in nine matches for Santos in the Brazilian Serie A. However, his main objective is to aid the club in climbing the table, as they are currently 15th in the standings.
Moreover, his performance will be key in deciding his return to the national team. The forward has not featured for the Selecao since suffering an ACL injury in 2023 against Uruguay.
Following Santos’ game against Juventude, the former FC Barcelona player was told that the staff members of Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil national team were present at the game. He was further asked if his display against Juventude was enough to convince them to call him back to the national team.
Neymar made his stance clear on his return to the national team
However, his reply was rather emphatic.
“I don’t need to prove anything to anyone,” Neymar said before walking away.

Neymar is well aware of his status in the national team. It was just his bad luck that he couldn’t remain consistent due to injuries hampering his performance. However, he is still one of the most crucial players for them, as Carlo Ancelotti knows that the former PSG star’s inclusion will only strengthen the team if he remains fit.
When fit, he is one of the most impactful players on the pitch. He has now fared 90 minutes in five straight games for the first time since August 2022, which indicates that he is finally returning to his best fitness level.
Now he and the national team will hope that he continues to be fit, which will certainly guarantee his spot in the national team for World Cup qualifiers.
When was the last time Neymar played for Brazil?
He played in October 2023 against Uruguay.
What was the former Barcelona star’s response when asked whether he would be called for the national team?
“I don’t need to prove anything to anyone,” Neymar said before walking away.
When are Selecao’s next 2026 World Cup qualifiers games?
The national team, led by Carlo Ancelotti, will play their next set of World Cup qualifiers games in September.
