The forward sustained a new injury during a game for Santos.

Neymar will miss Santos’ next matches due to a new calf injury, but he should be fit in time to join the Brazil national team camp ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Rodrigo Zogaib, Santos’ head of medical, stated on Wednesday that Neymar has suffered a 2-millimeter edema, causing swelling in his right calf.

Zogaib stated that despite the setback, the injury won’t stop the star forward from being healthy by May 27, when he is supposed to join Brazil’s World Cup camp.

“Neymar has a minor calf injury, an edema,” Zogaib said to Brazilian sports network “ge.”

“But, according to our planning, his progress will allow him to be fit next week when he will join up with the national team.”

Doctors from the Brazilian Football Confederation have been keeping a tight eye on Neymar while he receives therapy at Santos’ Rei Pelé Training Centre alongside his personal staff.

The incident caused anxiety among Ancelotti’s coaching staff in the hours preceding the final squad release, according to ESPN. They were concerned that Neymar’s injury may change his first training plan and his availability for the May 31 Panama friendly.

The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain striker’s most recent encounter with Brazil occurred in October 2023. Neymar had not been included in any of Ancelotti’s prior call-ups, despite his constant insistence that he would only choose players who were physically fit.

After receiving treatment for a calf issue, the Santos star was replaced in the second half of that game. However, he returned to the field without realising he had been replaced, which led to a violent argument with the referee over what he believed to be an error with the substitution board.

He has sustained a calf injury.
