The forward’s chances of playing for the national team have been hindered by another injury.
Neymar’s chances of playing in the 2026 World Cup next summer appear slim after he sustained yet another injury setback. Due to an injury, the Brazil all-time top scorer was left out of Carlo Ancelotti’s team for the September’s FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
The ex-Barcelona star has now suffered another setback, raising questions over whether he will play in Selecao’s October international friendly.
Neymar sustains a new injury during training session

During a training practice with Santos, Neymar sustained a new knock, adding to his ongoing injury problems. The iconic figure from Brazil sustained damage to his right rectus femoris muscle. He is being monitored by Santos’ medical staff and is presently undergoing tests.
In an official statement released on Friday, the Brazilian giants wrote: “Forward Neymar Jr. left Thursday’s training session (18) at CT Rei Pelé with pain in his right thigh. After undergoing imaging tests on Friday (19), the athlete was diagnosed with an injury to the rectus femoris muscle in his right thigh. Neymar Jr. has already begun treatment at CEPRAF under the guidance of the Medical Department of Santos FC.”
Lucas Minarelli, a writer for UOL, claims that the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star will probably be out for at least a month.
He is therefore not expected to play for Brazil in their forthcoming international friendly against South Korea and Japan next month.
Neymar’s ability to play in what would be his fourth World Cup for Brazil next summer is seriously doubtful due to his ongoing injuries. The 33-year-old has already received a warning from Ancelotti about his inclusion in the World Cup team.
