The Brazilian has already missed half of the matches this season.

After testing positive for COVID-19, Santos have confirmed that Neymar Jr. will be out for a while again.

Even though he returned to the Brazilian club, Neymar has not had the greatest of luck since joining from Al-Hilal in the January 2025 transfer window.

He has been out for the majority of the last two years due to injuries. Due to injury issues and a lack of fitness, the Brazilian has only played in 12 games for his childhood club since joining the Brazilian Serie A team.

Since Neymar tested positive for COVID-19, the club have now announced that he will be out for another period of time. The former Barcelona player has been isolating since testing positive on Thursday, according to the Brazilian Serie A team’s statement.

In an official statement, Santos wrote:

“With a viral condition that began on Thursday (June 5), Neymar Jr. underwent laboratory tests, after evaluation by the Medical Department of Santos FC, which confirmed infection by Covid-19.

“The player had already been away from activities since Thursday, when he began showing symptoms, and remains resting at home and undergoing symptomatic treatment, as determined by a doctor.”

The Brazilian ace was already suspended for the team’s encounter against Fortaleza on Friday, so theoretically, he won’t miss a single game because of the infection. Due to the FIFA Club World Cup break, the team’s next match will be against Palmeiras nearly a month later.

The team did not immediately reply to a request for comment from reporters and did not specify how long the former PSG star will be sidelined. Now it remains to be seen how long the forward will take to recover from the infection.

With his contract expiring on June 30, the ex-Barcelona forward’s status at the club is still up in the air. Despite being sidelined by injury, he has made 12 appearances for Santos so far in all contests, tallying three goals and three assists.
