[WATCH] Neymar & Thiago Silva share playful moment during Santos vs Fluminense game

The Santos vs Fluminense league game ended in a 0-0 draw.

During Santos’ match against Fluminense, Neymar attempted to place an on-field bet with fellow Brazil legend Thiago Silva.

Two legendary Brazilian football players faced off in a match that ended in a scoreless draw. Neymar and Thiago Silva were international teammates for a number of years before joining Paris Saint-Germain as teammates for three years.

Thiago Silva reveals after the game what Neymar told him

Despite their tight friendship, it is put on hold while they compete against each other. At their most recent encounter, the two engaged in a playful altercation while pushing each other.

Ex-Chelsea and AC Milan defender Thiago Silva told TV Globo afterwards: “It’s very special to face friends. We hear a lot of nonsense from the outside: ‘Ah, they welcomed Neymar with kisses, hugs…’ Before the rivalry, there was a strong brotherly friendship. And that doesn’t mean we don’t want to win against each other anymore.”

He added on one incident late in the first half that saw Neymar try to get under the skin of a familiar foe (Silva):

“In the middle of the match, he said to me: ‘Let’s bet that I’m going to score a goal and win the match’. I replied: ‘I prefer not to’. These conversations, these interactions are part of the game.”

With Santos still embroiled in a relegation scrap, Thiago Silva wished Neymar “good luck” for the remainder of the season. The Santos star, the Selecao’s all-time top scorer, hopes to make it to the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals next summer with Brazil. Meanwhile, the 40-year-old centre-back is no longer playing for Brazil.
