Nigeria announce squad for upcoming international matches; Victor Osimhen omitted

The Super Eagles will face Ghana and Russia in June.
In addition to a reduced 21-man roster for the international friendly against Russia, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has revealed a 26-man roster for the forthcoming Unity Cup. Notable absences include Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Osimhen.
Before Nigeria’s next qualifiers, their absence has given homegrown stars and marginal players a chance to establish themselves.
The team is led by Premier League midfielders Frank Onyeka and Wilfred Ndidi, with offensive alternatives Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze, and Kelechi Iheanacho.
Nigeria will play their bitter rivals Ghana in the opening match of the Unity Cup on Wednesday, May 28, which was established to foster harmony among African football players.
Experience and up-and-coming skills are combined in Chelle’s Nigeria squad.
In addition to captain Ahmed Musa, who rejoined the team alongside Cyriel Dessers, who concluded the Scottish Premiership season as the team’s best scorer, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, Maduka Okoye, and Amas Obasogie will vie for the starting position.
Victor Boniface is anticipated to play against Russia, although he is not included in the Unity Cup roster. Chelle has selected a good mix of Unity Cup players and regular internationals for the friendly encounter against Russia on Friday, June 6, at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium.
Those mentioned include Bright Osayi-Samuel, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Raphael Onyedika, Olaoluwa Aina, Captain William Ekong, and Boniface of Bayer Leverkusen.
Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago are the four participating nations in the Unity Cup competition. From May 27 to May 31, it will take place at Brentford’s G-Tech Community Stadium.
