Norway will make their first appearance at the World Cup since 1998.
Norway’s journey over the Atlantic may have been difficult in previous years because they shared a qualification group with Italy. But this time, the Scandinavians’ perfect campaign saw them secure all 24 points available.
Boss Stale Solbakken’s squad dominated their qualifying group, scoring 37 goals and conceding just five. They topped their group with an overwhelming performance in every qualifier.
Landslaget has had mixed results in the four friendlies played after the completion of the qualifying, losing 2-1 to the Netherlands, drawing with Morocco and Switzerland, and winning 3-1 against Sweden.
The Norwegians’ previous World Cup finals appearance was in 1998 in France. There, they got out of their group but were eliminated in the round of 16 after a 1-0 loss to Italy.
Tuesday will be Norway and Iraq’s first meeting. It is tough to predict how they will fare against each other.
Norway team news vs Iraq

Landslaget will be headed by talismanic striker Erling Haaland. But he will not be their sole weapon in the final third on Tuesday. The Manchester City striker might start alongside Antonio Nusa and Alexander Sorloth.
Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard will captain his national team, which will also include Sander Berge and Fredrik Aursnes.
Solbakken’s lineup is slated to have a four-man defence. Veteran Kristoffer Ajer is likely to start at centre back alongside Torbjorn Heggem.
